Family Owned

Our History

We have, over the last few years, built a strong reputation for which we hope will lay strong foundations for Twenty One and its modern & contemporary mix.
But where did it all begin?

Da Luciano’s

Da Luciano or “Tony’s” as locals called it, nestled in the small village of Bothwell became home for the Almiento Family in the early 80’s. Over the 20 years that they ran the restaurant, its reputation as one of the best Italian Restaurants in Scotland was renowned,so much so that Mr Almiento was knighted by the President of Italy in Rome for his services to the food industry at this time. Providing the finest quality Italian cuisine, Da Luciano became an institution, with fond memories still being reminisced about today by many regarding the family’s time running this exceptional establishment.

City Merchant

After retiring from Da Luciano and a  well deserved rest, the next main venture became the City Merchant Restaurant situated on  Candleriggs. This iconic restaurant already held a wonderful reputation for over 30 years and the challenge was fully on the family’s shoulders to maintain this which they did for 10 years but as the Dad side of the “Dad & Daughter” team was reaching the glorious age where slowing down was appropriate, a smaller venue was now a better option. The opportunity which became Twenty One was offered  and decided that this would allow the Family to continue as a team.
